I want to applaud you for saying that your journey with a down syndrome child is cool. My brother was born in 1978 when Downs children were still looked at as abominations. My mother fought to see him, and the nurse who brought “Josh” to her was fired. They used to take downs babies to the mental facilities. I hope your journey is as eventful and rewarding as mine has been. Hope you have an awesome journey

Hi, Tony. Sorry for the long delay in posting your comment! I haven’t been keeping up with this site as well as I should. I always thought about teaching creative writing, but figured it was sort of a pipe dream. But then my husband went back to school to get his teaching certification, and every day he brought home interesting stories that made me realize I was even more interested in education than I thought. And I’ve been happy to find that discussing stories, ideas, creativity and writing with young people has been as inspiring as I’d hoped.

Hey Cat, how ru? I was reading cnn.com and saw the where are they now D & C. I was reading your bio on there and saw that you live in Austin. I live in austin also and I’m a writer also. I’m currently driving a taxi cab in Austin. Do you take taxis? Because you look familar(besides the movie). I drive a Prius taxi cab. Anyways I’d love for you to read some of my work.

Hi Catherine. I hope you don’t get tired of it but I loved you in Dazed & Confused. You had a small role but geez you were hot (in a 70′s sort of way).

I grew up back then and that move captured so much of what it was really like. Anyway, it’s cool to find you and get to say Hi.

Hi Stevie, Thanks for visiting my site! I do offer my workshop online sometimes, so I hope you’ll keep checking back for dates and availability. I just finished teaching it mid-March, so I’ll probably offer it again this summer sometime.

And I love sci-fi, though I’m not very widely read in it (yet). I really love Neal Stephenson — The Diamond Age and Snow Crash, especially. I read those books again and again (though on subsequent reads I started skipping big portions of the text…seems like Stephenson likes to write these looooong, verbose chapters that are more about his personal interests than advancing the story… ). I haven’t read any Asimov yet but he’s on my list. I heard once that he had several typewriters at different desks in his house, which he would use to keep two or three or more stories going at once. I think that’s really cool. I usually work on a couple of stories at once, when I’m writing, and I always have 8 or 10 books around the house to read concurrently.

Hi Catherine, Just checking out your site a bit. I am a sucker for writers workshops and would be curious to attend one of yours except…I am not located in Texas.
I am an aspiring writer but mostly in science fiction, how do you feel about that genre?
(Arthur C Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlen or however the hell you spell it?)
